As a parent, can I come back to the clinic with my child for their orthodontic appointment?
September 10, 2024

Our parents often wonder if they can come back to the clinic with their child for their orthodontic appointment. Our answer: YES! Many dental and orthodontic offices request the parents stay in the waiting room, but we feel differently.

Why we love when parents join their kids for their appointments:

We love, and actually prefer, when the parent joins their child as their teeth are being evaluated at their braces or Invisalign appointments because we want everyone to be on the same page. We discuss what we are doing at each appointment in detail with everyone present, including:

  • Brushing
  • Rubber band wear, if needed
  • Treatment progress

Sometimes our lingo can be confusing, and our instructions can get forgotten (*namely, our teen patients magically forgetting we asked them to wear elastics :P*), so when everyone is present, the appointment is smoother!

What we do when a parent/guardian can’t come to the appointment:

We understand often the parent needs to work or kids drive themselves to their appointment. When that happens, we try to text a summary of what we did and any relevant information from the visit. As always, if your child is in treatment and you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out by phone/text, and we will get back to you ASAP!
